Public Information Office

The Public Information Officer (PIO) is the information link between Kill Devil Hills, its community and residents, and the media. The PIO provides the public with news and information concerning government services, events, and initiatives to promote transparency and public involvement in Town decisions. The PIO works closely with staff of all departments, community groups, the news media, and others to present accurate information to the citizens of Kill Devil Hills.

This office prepares and distributes news releases, answers media inquiries, produces written materials such as brochures, fliers, and other literature; plans press conferences; promotes and plans special events; provides media relations and public relations counsel to Town departments; and maintains the Town website and all official social media accounts.

During emergencies and crisis situations, the PIO serves as an integral component of the Town’s Emergency Operations Team. The main goal of the PIO is to get the right information to the right people at the right time so they can make informed decisions. Communicating during times of crisis is crucial when it comes to keeping the public informed, protecting property and potentially even saving lives.
