Spring Forward into Brighter Days!

Daylight Saving Time begins Sunday, March 8, at 2 a.m. Remember to set your clocks forward one hour before going to bed and enjoy the longer, brighter days ahead.

This is also a great time to test your smoke alarms to make sure they are working properly and to replace the batteries if needed. Maintaining your smoke alarms is a simple step that can help protect your home and save lives.

Don’t forget to check your carbon monoxide detectors as well and replace their batteries if necessary.

Smoke alarms are a key part of a home fire escape plan. When there is a fire, smoke spreads fast. Working smoke alarms give you early warning so you can get outside quickly.

  • A closed door may slow the spread of smoke, heat and fire. Install smoke alarms in every sleeping room and outside each separate sleeping area. Install alarms on every level of the home.
  • Smoke alarms should be interconnected. When one sounds, they all sound.
  • Large homes may need extra smoke alarms.
  • Test your smoke alarms at least once a month. Press the test button to be sure the alarm is working.
  • Today’s smoke alarms will be more technologically advanced to respond to a multitude of fire conditions, yet mitigate false alarms.
  • When a smoke alarm sounds, get outside and stay outside.
  • Replace all smoke alarms in your home every 10 years.

Happy Birthday, Kill Devil Hills!

On this day in 1953, Kill Devil Hills was officially incorporated.

Kill Devil Hills is more than just a Town, it’s a place where dreams take flight. It’s where friendships are made, families are raised, traditions begin, and memories that last a lifetime are created.

Whether you’re a longtime resident, a newcomer, a visitor returning year after year, or one of the many dedicated workers or local businesses that make KDH shine, you’re an important part of our story.
