IN 2004, the Board of Commissioners established the Kill Devil Hills Historic Landmarks Commission under the authority of Chapter 160A, Article 19, Part 3C of the North Carolina General Statutes. The HLC consists of 5 members who resident within the planning and zoning jurisdiction of Kill Devil Hills.
A majority of the HLC members are required to have demonstrated special interest, experience, or education in history, archaeology, or related fields. Members serve 3-year staggered terms.
Responsibilites
The HLC's duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to making recommendation to the Board of Commissioners on individual structures, buildings, sites, areas, or objects to be designated by ordinance as "Landmarks" in Kill Devil Hills.
The HLC is organized and conducts its business in accordance with the provisions of Article III, Chapter 31, of the Town Code. Its regular meeting schedule is the second Wednesday pf each month at 8:30 a.m. in the Board of Commissioners Meeting Room at Town Hall, 102 Town Hall Drive, off Colington Road.
