Commissioner T. Dillon Heikens

Dillon believes local government should be about common sense, respect, and keeping the community strong. While not originally from the area, he grew up, like so many others, coming here every summer. After graduating from East Carolina University, he decided to make the move permanent with his wife, Emily, and daughter, Penelope.

Originally appointed to the West Side Recreation Group in 2019, he went on to serve on the Town’s Planning Board, Historic Landmarks Commission, and as an alternate on the Zoning Board of Adjustment. Appointed to the Board of Commissioners in March 2024, filling former Commissioner, now Mayor Windley’s seat, his focuses are on public safety, support of our dedicated people on staff, continuing to improve the use of our vast resource of public spaces, complete transparency in government, and finding ways to responsibly improve our infrastructure.

Dillon has always thought that local government is the closest form to the original intent of a representative body; these aren’t strangers, these are your friends, your family, your neighbors, and there is no higher honor than being able to serve to represent so many special people.
