Prepare. Protect. Insure

Whether you live in the Outer Banks year-round or own a second home here, protecting your property is essential.

Even homes in areas that generally do not flood can be damaged due to flash flooding from rain, high groundwater levels and the naturally low island topography of the Outer Banks. It is important to know the hazards that may exist for your property and what steps you can take to prepare your property and your family to reduce the risks of flood damages.

Most homeowners insurance does not cover flood damage. Flood insurance is a separate policy that can cover buildings, the contents in a building, or both. Flood insurance is an important tool to protect your home and your investment.

Visit DareNC.gov/Flood or kdhnc.com/1070/Flood-Information for more information regarding planning for flood hazards and flood zones in Dare County.
