In observance of the Christmas and New Year's holidays, the town will have office closures and changes to our refuse collection schedule.

2021 KDH Holiday and Refuse Collection Schedule

During the holiday weeks, residential collection of recyclables by Bay Disposal will be made on normal recyclable collection days; Mondays for the East Side and Tuesdays for the West Side.

Board of Commissioners Adopts Yearly Meeting Schedule

Notice of Public Hearings

On Monday, January 10, 2022, the Kill Devil Hills Board of Commissioners will hold five public hearings to receive public comments, both written and oral, regarding a special use application and several zoning amendments. View the notice of public hearings

2021 - 2022 Community Appearance Awards

Members of the Board of Commissioners with Rep. from Professor Hacker's Lost Treasure Golf, winner of the best overall CAC award.

Biennially, the KDH Community Appearance Commission (CAC) nominates commercial establishments within the Town, for consideration of receiving an award for one of three categories: Overall Community Appearance, Most Improved Appearance, and Best Shopping Center Unit Appearance. The CAC members narrow down their lists of nominations by using a score sheet to rate the businesses on a variety of criteria.

The list of winners and nominees for the CAC’s 2018-2019 Awards are as follows:

Best Overall Community Appearance Award
Winner: Professor Hacker’s Lost Treasure Golf
Nominees: Rose, Harrison, Gilreath & Powers, P.C., Outer Banks Presbyterian Church, and Ashely’s Espresso Parlour & All-Time Roasting Co.

Most Improved Appearance
Winner: Swells’a Brewing Beer Company
Nominees: The Holistic Pet Shop, The Beach Music Shop, and For The Dogs Obx LLC.

Best Shopping Center Unit Appearance
Winner: Max’s Italian Restaurant & Pizzeria
Nominees: The Beach Music Shop, Beach Fitness, Hang 12 Art Studio, and Holy Cow Creamery

Congratulations to the 2021-2022 winners and nominees! They are all appealing and attractive businesses in Town and embody a sense of community and of pride: qualities we hope will be standards for others to emulate.

Complete an application to receive an oak tree

Adopt a Live Oak Tree

The CAC worked to establish an official town tree, the Live Oak. Awareness and preservation efforts are conducted during the month of May with a ‘Love Your Live Oak’ campaign. Leading up to the campaign, the CAC will be accepting applications from KDH residents who are interested in receiving a live oak tree, at no cost to them, to plant on their property.

To receive a free young Live Oak Tree, please complete an application on the town’s website.

Applications will be collected through the last day of the year for review by the CAC in January. Limit one application per property owner.

Be sure to take some time to visit Aviation Park and view the town's spectacular holiday light display this season. The display was constructed by the Kill Devil Hills’ Grounds Division. Aviation Park is located at 103 Veterans Drive.
