Are you prepared for hurricane season?

Hurricane Preparedness

As we move through the end of August the height of active hurricane season is just ahead. Are you ready for an emergency?

Emergency Planning for Families:
Make sure your family has a plan in place in case of an emergency. Before an emergency happens, sit down together and decide how you will get in contact with each other, where you will go and what you will do in an emergency.

Emergency Planning for Pets:
Be sure to include your pets in your disaster preparedness planning. Map out pet-friendly accommodations, in the event of an evacuation. Have an emergency supply kit ready for your pets. Confirm that your pets have up-to-date identification and contact information on their collars, tags, and microchips.

Emergency Planning for Businesses:

Every year, emergencies can drastically affect businesses. By planning ahead business owners can limit injury, property damage, and return to daily operations sooner. Business owners should take precautions by: having plans in place to ensure staff safety, reviewing insurance coverage, improving cyber security, securing their facility and any equipment.

Dare Counts - Census 2020

The census provides critical information to help support our community, and getting a complete and accurate count requires everyone's participation. Every single response to the 2020 Census is an estimated $18,000 to North Carolina over the next decade. That is funding for roads, early education, rural development, veterans, senior care, emergency response services, and parks, and more.

Complete the 2020 Census online at my2020census.gov or by phone at 1-844-330-2020.

NCDOT Seeks Public Input on Statewide Trail Network Plan - Great Trails State Plan would link trails in all 100 N.C. counties

As people across North Carolina are using greenways and trails in record numbers, their input is needed to develop the Great Trails State Plan.

The Great Trails State Plan is a state Department of Transportation-led effort to identify existing trails and define what actions need to take place to connect those trails statewide. The plan builds upon local and regional trails to identify one overall trail network that is focused on connections to state parks and populated areas.

The public can provide feedback by taking an interactive map survey and a 10-question survey. Participants are encouraged to take both surveys, which close on Sept. 30.
