Tree Adoption

The Town of Kill Devil Hills' Community Appearance Commission (CAC) worked to establish an official town tree, the Live Oak. Awareness and preservation efforts are conducted during the month of May with a ‘Love Your Live Oak’ campaign. Leading up to the campaign, the CAC will be accepting applications from KDH residents who are interested in receiving a live oak tree, at no cost to them, to plant on their property.

To receive a free young Live Oak Tree, please complete an application.

Applications will be collected through December 31, 2025, for review by the CAC in January of 2026. (Limit one application per property owner. Previous recipients not eligible.)

KDH Holiday Season Highlights

This holiday season was filled with moments that brought our community together, and we are grateful to everyone who participated and helped make it so special.

The First Flight Holiday Markets were a wonderful way to support small businesses, and we thank everyone who chose to shop local. We’re looking forward to welcoming everyone back for the 2026 summer farmers markets.

The Santa at the Wright Lights Illumination event was a festive evening to remember, featuring Santa, a sleigh ride, school choirs, dazzling lights, a food truck, and much more. It was a true celebration of holiday cheer and community spirit.

Our Donation Drive in support of the Beach Food Pantry and Toys for Tots showcased the generosity of our residents. Together, we collected 414 pounds of food, along with numerous toy pickups throughout the season—making a meaningful impact for local families.

We also enjoyed Breakfast with Heroes, a free community breakfast that brought neighbors together to connect with some of the first responders who protect and serve our community. The event highlighted the strong bonds and mutual appreciation.

Thank you to everyone who attended, volunteered, donated, and celebrated with us this holiday season. Your participation added magic to the holiday season and reminded us that community is at the heart of everything we do here in Kill Devil Hills.

The Town of Kill Devil Hills will be collecting natural Christmas trees beginning on Wednesday, January 7. Please remove all ornaments, tinsel, lights, and other non-organic items from your tree. Place your tree in the right-of-way adjacent to your property and ensure that it is away from all other objects, no later than Tuesday, January 6. No artificial trees or other bulk trash items will be collected.
