In Memoriam: Former Mayor Duncan Wright

The Town of Kill Devil Hills is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of former Mayor F. Duncan Wright, a dedicated public servant whose contributions left a lasting mark on our community.

Duncan Wright served with distinction as a Kill Devil Hills Commissioner from December 1993 to December 1995 and as Mayor from December 1995 through December 1997. His tenure was marked by a steadfast commitment to the well-being of Kill Devil Hills and its residents.

Beyond his elected service, Duncan dedicated much of his life to helping others, working as a paramedic for Dare County and volunteering with Nags Head’s Fire Department. Whether in office or in uniform, he approached every role with an unwavering commitment to helping others, led by compassion and a true servant’s heart.

Known for his larger-than-life personality and his gift for connecting with everyone he met, Duncan truly knew no strangers. His legacy is not only found in the policies and progress of his time in office, but also in the lives he touched and the community he helped shape.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing Duncan. The Town honors his memory and the many ways he served Kill Devil Hills with pride, humor, and dedication.
