Briefing from the National Weather Service
Hurricane Franklin is expected to pass well to the east of the Outer Banks, but will still produce extremely dangerous rip currents at our beaches through mid-week.
In addition to dangerous rip currents along our coast, increased swells combined with a King Tide cycle could result in some beach erosion and localized ocean overwash across the Outer Banks, which could be worsened by Tropical Storm Idalia later this week.
(Disclaimer: The information contained in the NWS briefings are time-sensitive. Note expiration time on briefing.)
Residents and visitors are encouraged to monitor updated weather forecasts from the National Hurricane Center and our local National Weather Service office.
BEACH REMINDER: Perfect beach weather does NOT mean the ocean is safe! Respect the flags, if red flags are flying you should not be swimming! Don't risk your life or someone else's. Stay safe, stay out of the ocean!
