Town of Kill Devil Hills

June 27, 2023

The main parking lot at the Ocean Bath Bathhouse will be closed to the public Thursday morning (6/29) for a press conference. It is anticipated to re-open around noon. Public parking will still be available at the lot directly across the street or either beach access to the north or south. The sand walkover portion of the access will remain open during the event, but the conference itself will be held at the top of the stairs. This press conference will involve Ocean Rescue Agencies from Duck to Hatteras, Dare County Emergency Management, Dare County 911, and the National Weather Service (Morehead City) sharing critical beach safety information with our news media partners in an effort to prevent serious injuries or fatalities among beachgoers.

If you're ever caught in a rip current, the most important thing to note is that rip currents pull you out, not under. ?? Remain calm. ?? Yell and wave for help. ?? Stay afloat. ?? Swim parallel to the shore. Don’t try to swim against the current. ?? Once you no longer feel the pull of the current, then you can begin swimming to shore.
