Post Winter Storm Elliot Limited Storm Debris CollectionThe Town of Kill Devil Hills Public Services Department will be conducting a limited storm debris collection from sound side properties impacted by flooding during winter storm Elliot beginning Monday January 9, 2023. The limited collection will be provided for properties along Bay Drive, the 700 block of Canal Drive, Cedar Drive west of W. First Street, Captains Circle and W. First Street west of Canal Drive. Please have items for collection placed in the Street right-of way not later than Sunday, January 8, 2023.Place approved storm debris items in (3) separate bundles as follows:- Bundle #1: Vegetative Debris (limbs, leaves, branches, sea grass, etc.)
- Bundle #2: Construction and Demolition Materials (building materials, shingles, etc.)
- Bundle #3: White Goods and Metals
Please Note: Household Hazardous Waste and Electronics should be brought to the Recycle Center. As a regular service, the Town’s Recycle and Dry Trash Drop-Off Centers are available to drop off materials Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., and on Saturdays, 8:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. The Recycle and Dry Trash Drop-Off Centers will be closed on Monday, January 2, 2023 in observance of the New Year’s holiday. Use of the Dry Trash Drop-Off Center by residents requires a no-cost permit, which can be obtained at the Public Services Administration Building, 107 Town Hall Drive. Christmas Tree CollectionThe Town will be collecting natural Christmas trees beginning on Wednesday, January 11th. Please remove all ornaments, tinsel, lights, and other non-organic items from your tree. Place your tree in the right-of-way adjacent to your property and ensure that it is away from all other objects, no later than January 10th. No artificial trees or other bulk trash items will be collected.

PLANNED TEMPORARY ROAD CLOSURE West Fourth Street - January 3 - January 20, 2023 The Town of Kill Devil Hills will have a temporary road closure beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, January 3, 2023, for the east end of West Fourth Street at its intersection with North Croatan Highway (US 158), for utility and roadway improvements. Through traffic on West Fourth Street will be prohibited during this work. Local traffic traveling southbound on North Croatan Highway may use West Third Street to Bay Drive to detour around the closure. Local traffic traveling northbound on North Croatan Highway may use West Fifth Street to Georgia Lane to detour around the closure. Local traffic on West Fourth Street may use Georgia Lane to West Fifth Street to detour around the closure to access North Croatan Highway. West Fourth Street will remain open from the west for access to adjacent homes. The temporary road closure is scheduled to end by 4:30 p.m. on Friday, January 20, 2023.
