Town of Kill Devil Hills update

September 23, 2022

Town of Kill Devil Hills 2022 Beach Driving begins October 1, 2022

It’s that time of year. . . crisp fall air, great surf fishing, and beach driving in KDH!
The Town of Kill Devil Hills’ beach driving permits will be available for purchase for the 2022-2023 beach driving season beginning Monday, 9/26.

A few things to note:
• KDH seasonal permits are $25 and KDH temporary permits are $10 (good for 14 days).
• KDH beach driving permits are ONLY good for the Town of Kill Devil Hills beach.
• The speed limit is 15 mph.
• Air down your tires!
• Storms and high tides can cause rough beach conditions and may limit driving room. During high tides, portions of the beach are likely to become impassible. Obey all closure signs and notices. Check the Town’s website and social media pages (FB, IG) regularly for any possible closures.

For additional beach driving information, including maps and safety tips, visit the Town’s website.

NC TOWERS Offshore Wind Stakeholder Survey

The NC Taskforce for Offshore Wind Economic Resource Strategies (NC TOWERS) wants to hear from you!  This survey is designed to gather feedback from key stakeholders - like you - regarding the responsible development of offshore wind energy in North Carolina.

It will be especially helpful to the Taskforce to identify the information needs that stakeholders have on the topic of offshore wind.

This feedback will inform the work of the NC TOWERS taskforce, which is charged with advising and providing recommendations to Governor Cooper and the N.C. General Assembly on the responsible development of offshore wind energy in North Carolina. Individual answers will not be shared. Answers from all stakeholders will be compiled into a summary report for the NC TOWERS taskforce.

Falls Prevention Awareness Week Is September 18–24

This campaign raises awareness for older adults, their caregivers, and health care professionals about the increased risks and impacts of falls on those aged 65+.
Fifty-two million Americans aged 65 or older make up 16 percent of the total US population. Yet they experience disproportionate injuries and deaths from fires and falls—twice the general population when it comes to fires. Falls are the leading cause of death from unintentional injuries for older adults, with nearly 1 in 3 seniors—that’s 17 million people—suffering a fall each year.
