Nags Head Woods Preserve 2022 Bow Hunting Season

Nags Head Woods Preserve
2022 Bow Hunting Season

The Nature Conservancy allows bow hunting for white-tailed deer in the Nags Head Woods Preserve; the annual hunt is designed to manage the deer herd and to ensure the herd’s health.  The regular hunting season runs September 10, 2022, through January 2, 2023. Interested hunters must attend an orientation session and complete an application form which includes a $50 fee (to cover the cost of hunt administration and liability insurance).  All orientation sessions are held at Nags Head Woods Preserve, 701 West Ocean Acres Drive, Kill Devil Hills.  Please call (252) 441-2525 ext. 2 with any questions or email at nagsheadwoods@tnc.org.

If you are visiting Nags Head Woods as a non-hunter (i.e. if you are hiking, running, or fishing),always respect our year-round regulations: stay on designated hiking trails and keep dogs leashed.  Hunters have specific safety zones and are not allowed to hunt within 100 yards of designated hiking trails.  We appreciate your consideration of the various ways the public uses and enjoys Nags Head Woods.

Hunter Orientation Sessions Schedule:
Tuesday August 23, 5:30 p.m.
Wednesday August 24, 5:30 p.m.
Tuesday August 30, 5:30 p.m.
Wednesday August 31, 5:30 p.m.

Hurricane Preparedness includes the Entire Family

We know Kate McCallister ALWAYS forgets Kevin in her plans. You don’t need to be Mrs. McCallister.

It’s important to share and practice your emergency plans with your entire family, including young children and teens.

Emergencies and disasters can be scary, but there are ways to help you stay safe before, during, and even after a disaster. Being prepared for disasters starts at home. Before an emergency happens, sit down together as a family and decide what you may need in a supply kit, how you will get in contact with each other, where you will go, and what you will do in an emergency.

Crosswalk Safety Videos

Current TV, in partnership with local law enforcement agencies, has released two videos—one for adults and teenagers as well as one that is specifically geared toward young children—to educate and inform pedestrians about crosswalk safety in Dare County.
Targeting both residents and visitors, the videos focus primarily on the proper way to traverse Highway 158—best known as “the bypass”—and also offer some additional tips for how pedestrians can stay safe while walking across the busiest road on the Outer Banks.
