Latest Briefing on Tropical Storm Elsa
from the National Weather Service 

Tropical Storm Elsa is expected to impact Eastern North Carolina this Thursday, July 8, 2021. Heavy and excessive rain is anticipated, and flooding is likely, especially sound-side. The storm will also bring strong winds. Hazardous sea conditions are to be expected. Isolated tornados are also possible.

Flood Safety Tips

Here's what YOU need to do today to get ready for the impacts of Elsa:

  • Stay tuned to local weather forecasts
  • Listen to instructions from local officials
  • Be ready to move to higher ground if you're in a flood-prone area 
  • Prepare for damaging winds by:
  • Securing trash cans
  • Moving patio/lawn furniture inside
  • Taking down flags, hanging baskets, wind chimes, etc.

Dare County and National Weather Service’s Hurricane Preparedness Forum Now Available on YouTube

The Hurricane Preparedness Forum that Dare County Emergency Management held in partnership with the National Weather Service at 7 p.m. on Monday, June 21, 2021, is now available for online viewing on Dare County’s YouTube channel. 

During the event—which was held at the Dare County Emergency Operations Center in Manteo—Dare County Emergency Management Director Drew Pearson and Erik Heden, the National Weather Service’s local Warning Coordination Meteorologist, shared information about a variety of recommended preparedness actions and also provided updates on various weather service forecast products. 

Those who were unable to attend the event in-person—or to tune in to watch the virtual version live on June 21—can now watch a video of the forum on Dare County’s YouTube channel by clicking here.
