Celebrate Thanksgiving Safely - tips from NCDHHS
COVID-19 cases are drastically rising.

We know you may be tired of hearing about the 3 W’s, and we recognize the many difficult sacrifices you have been making this year – although it may be tiresome and challenging, it is what’s saving lives. By continuing to practice physical distancing, washing our hands frequently, and wearing a cloth face covering, we are helping to keep ourselves, our loved ones, and our community protected.

Like you, we’re beyond ready to get back to normal. However, things can’t return to normal without each of us doing what we can to slow the spread of this virus. We must continue to take the threat of COVID-19 very seriously. We urge you to PLEASE continue to do your part, Kill Devil Hills – it’s critically important!
It’s up to all of us to slow the spread of COVID-19.
Chalk message: tough times never last, but tough people do

trash can

Let's Talk Trash, KDH.

Keeping our community beautiful and litter-free is a team effort, which requires everyone’s help.

Do not place any debris for collection outside of your refuse container.
All trash placed curbside for collection day should be securely contained within your refuse cart. Leaving any debris outside of refuse containers is prohibited in Kill Devil Hills. The Town will not collect trash, whether bagged or unbagged, that is not within the container.

Roll your refuse container back after collection.
All refuse carts should be removed from the street right-of-way following each collection.

These two simple acts make a difference by:

  • Generating less pollution and broken/lost refuse containers
  • Leaving roadways litter-free and clear
  • Keeping our wildlife undisturbed
  • Allowing our Solid Waste drivers to continue their daily jobs efficiently, and most importantly, safely

Outer Banks Shipwrecks Map

Dare County Celebrated GIS Day by Developing an Outer Banks Shipwrecks Map

In celebration of Geographic Information System (GIS) Day on Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2020, the Dare County Department of Information Technologies GIS Division developed an Outer Banks Shipwrecks Map.

This treasure map-themed web map gives users the opportunity to explore some of the estimated 3,000 shipwrecks in the Graveyard of the Atlantic, which is situated just off the coast of North Carolina. Users can also obtain information about the year each of these vessels sank.

GIS is a scientific framework for gathering, analyzing and visualizing geographic data. Dare County’s GIS Division provides a wide variety of digital mapping resources. Some of the new tools that have been developed this year include a Flood Zone Swipe map as well as the Dare County 150th Anniversary Timeline map.

The Outer Banks Shipwrecks Map that was developed in celebration of GIS Day 2020 can be accessed at https://gis.darecountync.gov/gisday/2020. Additional mapping resources from the Dare County GIS Division can be found at https://gis.darecountync.gov/
