I Wear a Mask for. . .Thank you for making daily sacrifices. We know it’s not easy, but you are making a difference. Like you, we’re all anxious to get back to normal. However, we’re not there yet. It’s critically important that we stay the course. We must continue to practice social distancing, wash our hands frequently, and wear a cloth face covering. Please keep doing your part; you are helping our community beat this virus.
In cooperation with area municipalities, local businesses, and area locals, Current TV has released the first of a series of PSA's highlighting why it's important we all follow North Carolina's Executive Order to wear a Face Covering in public places. The Kill Devil Hills Board of Commissioners have also shared some reasons as to why they wear face coverings.
We're in this together, and together we will continue strong.
(There may be medical and justifiable reasons individuals are not wearing a mask or cloth face-covering in public. Please be kind, show compassion, and wear your mask to protect those who can’t.)

As we are currently in the hurricane season, the Town of Kill Devil Hills would like to remind everyone of the importance of being storm prepared. Please take the time to get you and your family storm ready by taking emergency precautions. - Emergency Plan — Make sure your family has a plan in place in case of an emergency. Before an emergency happens, sit down together and decide how you will get in contact with each other, where you will go and what you will do in an emergency. Evacuation plans should include what route you will take, what vehicles you will use, and where you will stay. While preparing your family's emergency plan, don't forget to make a plan for your pets.
- Emergency Preparedness Kit — Make sure that you have supplies ready for your family and pets. A basic emergency supply kit should include: water (1 gallon per person, per day for at least 3 days), non-perishable food (3 day supply per person), emergency light sources (flashlights, candles, lanterns), portable radio, extra batteries, first aid kit, medications, infant/pet supplies, if needed, important family documents (in waterproof container), and a blanket for each person.
- Emergency Alerts — Sign up to receive emergency alert notifications from Dare County. Dare County’s emergency alert system allows individuals to receive texts, emails, or a phone calls in the event an emergency situation develops that could impact them. Sign up here: https://www.darenc.com/emergencyalerts
- Reentry Following an Evacuation — Dare County Emergency Management has transitioned to online reentry permits. All reentry permits can be obtained at http://www.darenc.com/reentry. Reentry permits from previous years will NOT be accepted. Keep in mind, reentry permits are NOT issued 72 hours prior to a projected landfall of a tropical disturbance or hurricane. No changes have been made to reentry priorities.
