Crime Line Cold Case

The Kill Devil Hills Police Department and Dare Community Crime Line released video documentary, developed and completed by KDH Detective Lt. John Towler, with the assistance and cooperation from a number of others about the unsolved Denise Johnson murder.

Denise Johnson was a  long time Kill Devil Hills resident who was murdered on July 13, 1997.  Johnson grew up on the Outer Banks and the house she was killed in had been her childhood home.  Despite an aggressive investigation into the crime, which included assistance from the State Bureau of Investigation and Federal Bureau of Investigation, Johnson's killer has never been identified.

The video examines the murder from the perspective of the first responders, the lead investigator and the victim's sister, Donnie Johnson.  The hope is that the program will rekindle community interest in solving the case and encourage those who have information to come forward and provide new leads for investigators to pursue.
