Historic Landmarks Commission (HLC)
In 2004 the Board of Commissioners established the Kill Devil Hills Historic Landmarks Commission ("Commission") under the authority of Chapter 160A, Article 19, Part 3C of the North Carolina General Statutes. The Commission consists of five members who reside within the planning and zoning jurisdiction of Kill Devil Hills. A majority of the members of the Commission are required to have demonstrated special interest, experience or education in history, architecture, archaeology or related fields. Members of the HLC serve three-year staggered terms, and may be reappointed for a second consecutive term.
The HLC's duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to making recommendation to the Board of Commissioners on individual structures, buildings, sites, areas, or objects to be designated by ordinance as "Landmarks" in Kill Devil Hills.
The HLC is organized and conducts its business in accordance with the provisions of Article III, Chapter 31, of the Town Code. Their regular meeting schedule is the second Tuesday of each month at 10:00 a.m. in the Meeting Room at the Administration Building, 102 Town Hall Drive, off Colington Road.
