Excerpt from Preserve Beach Access

PBA1.jpg Freedom to Enjoy America's Beaches is At Risk

The Cape Hatteras National Seashore Recreational Area on North Carolina's Outer Banks was designated the first "National Seashore" in 1937 with the promise that people would always have the right of access for recreation.  Freedom to enjoy the beach, in a responsible way, is now at risk because of efforts by misguided environmental groups determined to restrict access for people

The right of access to Federal parklands is an important issue for everyone.  If beach access is eliminated at Cape Hatteras, the right of people to use our National Parks will be at risk everywhere.  Your help is urgently needed as part of this grassroots effort to preserve access for people.

            (Attached MA-1)

The Dare County Board of Commissioners has requested Kill Devil Hills’ support of their request for Congressional approval of S 3113 and HR 6233.  North Carolina Senators Dole and Burr, and Representative Jones introduced these two bills, respectively.  If they are approved the Interim Protect Species Management Plan which was designed to continue the balancing of access with resource protection along the Cape Hatteras National Seashore beaches until a negotiated rulemaking process is completed, will be reinstated.

Mayor Sturza recommended the Board of Commissioners adopt the Resolution Supporting S 3113 and HR 6233 to Reinstate the Interim Management Strategy Governing ORV Use in the Cape Hatteras National Seashore as presented and a motion will be in order.  Mayor Sturza made motion to adopt the Resolution Supporting S 3113 and HR 6233 to Reinstate the Interim Management Strategy Governing ORV Use in the Cape Hatteras National Seashore.  Commissioner Buske seconded the motion, which was approved, 5-0.

This resolution will be forwarded to Kill Devil Hills’ Congressional delegation and to the Dare County local governments, as well as posted on Kill Devil Hills’ webpage.
