Planning Board
The Kill Devil Hills Planning Board is comprised of seven members who are residents of the Town. They are appointed for three-year terms except that the chairperson of the Planning Board is appointed by the Board of Commissioners for a one-year term. The Planning Board is organized and conducts its business under the provisions of Article III, Chapter 31of the Town Code. The primary ordinances related to Planning Board business are included in Article XV of the Town Code, Chapter 153, Zoning; Chapter 152, Subdivisions; and, Chapter 151, Flood Damage Prevention.
Planning Board meetings are held on the first and third Tuesdays of each month at 7:00 p.m. in the Meeting Room at the Administration Building, 102 Town Hall Drive, off Colington Road. Their monthly planning session is held on the first Tuesday of each month and the Planning Board reviews site plans at their third Tuesday meeting.
The Planning Department provides staff assistance to the Planning Board as they prepare plans and coordinate the plans of the municipality and those of others so as to bring about a coordinated and harmonious development of the area. The Planning Board is designated as the planning agency for the revision of the zoning code of the town.
